Early Churchs and Religious Relations in Early Prattsburgh
The Prattsburgh Religious Society
The first church building was erected in the southeast corner of the park by the Prattsburgh Religious Society in 1804 for $220 . This was enlarged a couple of times as the congregation increased, by at least cutting it in two and moving the sections apart and then building the addition in the space between. This building is said to have burned in 1823. However, we read that some of the materials and lumber were put up at auction in 1824 and were purchased by Abner P. Lyon. A Dr. G.E. Watters helped tear it down. It was a vast piece of patch work. Mr. Lyon moved much of the timber, windows. Cornice across the road and used them to build the barn south of his home on that corner. When the Park Hotel and this barn were torn down tomake room for a gasoline station, such of the lumber was received for buildings on the muck lands.
The Presbyterian Church was built on the present site in 1825 and dedicated February 1828 at a cost of $4000. Borth the church and school burned in February 1923 ad both rebuilt shortly after that.
